Parents:
Children have a desire to give to others, particularly at a time when others are so giving to them. These activities offer children an outlet to give.

Children
Have you ever had fun seeing someone happy because of something you did? Here is a simple, fun way you can give to others.

Activity: Don't Forget to Say "Thanks"
Cut cards out of construction paper. You can make them any shape you want:
  • Rectangle
  • Squares
  • Round
  • Even triangles
Now think of someone to whom you would like to say "thank you" -- maybe your mom or dad for doing something special for you or your neighbor who brought over a delicious meal. Would you like to thank an aunt or an uncle for driving your carpool? Maybe your grandpa or grandma has been coming to your games or watching movies with you on the weekends.

Write a thank you note to someone special on each card. If it will fit, put it in an envelope and ask an adult to help you address it and put it in the mail. Chances are you will make someone very happy just by saying thanks.

Activity: Lend a Helping Hand
Make a list of things you would like to do for others. You could walk someone's dog, rake leaves, take in a neighbor's mail, give someone a big hug or wash a car. Make coupons for the activities on your list. Decorate your coupons with crayons and markers. Try to hand out two coupons each week.
